OUR MISSION

To create physicians of integrity with a lifelong commitment to our guiding principles of philanthropy, deity, and education through fellowship, service, mentoring, and formal training in leadership, science, and ethics.

WHO ARE WE?

Phi Delta Epsilon is a professional, co-educational international medical fraternity representing more than 35,000 members. Our chapter at the University of South Carolina was founded in 2013 as the first pre-medical chapter in South Carolina, making it the SC Alpha Chapter.

PhiDE as an organization, was founded on three precepts: philanthropy, deity, and education & equity.

Our chapter embodies each of these precepts through our motto - Facta Non Verba (deeds not words)

Philanthropy -

Our national philanthropy is Children's Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals.  Locally, we support the Prisma Health Children's Hospital - Midlands. All donations benefit local member hospitals to fund what’s needed most, like critical life-saving treatments and healthcare services, innovative research, vital pediatric medical equipment, child life services that put kids’ and families’ minds at ease during difficult hospital stays, and financial assistance for families who could not otherwise afford these health services.

In 2025, we raised over $10,000 for Prisma Health Children's Hospital - Midlands!

Deity -

"Deity" serves as a reminder that there is a greater power in healing. This principle is a core part of their mission to create physicians of integrity. We have over 340 alumni compassing medical students, practicing physicians, and distinguished emeritus members.

Education and Equity -

Our member's studies spans a wide range of majors, from Neuroscience, to International Business, English, to Cardiovascular Technology. Moreover, SC Alpha includes a variety of backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures. Each member contributes to inclusion and our culture is the result of that diversity. As future physicians, we believe every person and patient should be treated with equity and respect. We celebrate and support difference and are committed to equal opportunity regardless of race, color, creed, gender identity, pregnancy, genetic information, marital status, military service, veteran status, age, non-disqualifying disability, religious preference, sexual orientation, ethnic or national origin.

SC Alpha, pre-medical chapter aims to unite students interested in a career in medicine and foster their character development in leadership, community service, camaraderie, and professionalism. It offers a supportive environment and extensive resources for like-minded students to pursue their goals of being physicians.

FROM OUR PRESIDENT

It is an honor to serve and lead Phi Delta Epsilon. PhiDE is more than just a professional medical fraternity—it is community united by a shared passion for medicine. Committed to fostering the growth of aspiring physicians, PhiDE upholds its three pillars – philanthropy, deity, and equity & education – by providing opportunities for personal development, leadership, and mentorship.

Since joining my freshman year, PhiDE has been a cornerstone to my journey in medicine. Coming into college and just figuring out I wanted to pursue medicine, I felt lost and overwhelmed. PhiDE served as a beacon of hope, providing the direction and support I needed then... and more so each semester.

The mentorship, friendships, and opportunities I found here shaped my path to where I am today. PhiDE truly became my home. I see our motto,  facta non verba - deeds, not words - reflected in how our members pursue their goals and support one another both professionally and personally.

As we continue to grow, the Executive Board and I are dedicated to fostering an environment where every member feels appreciated and supported. We invite you to explore our website to learn more about us and our values. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions—we would love for you to join our PhiDE Phamily!
